Dalam melakukan personal branding, intinya adalah bagaimana orang lain mempersepsikan anda seperti persepsi yang anda inginkan. Apakah anda ingin dipersepsikan sebagai seorang marketer berhasil, seorang pebisnis sukses, atau apapun persepsi yang ingin anda bentuk, brand itulah yang harus anda bangun. Tidak terkecuali ketika anda lakukan itu dengan Facebook.
Facebook sendiri memiliki karakter sebagai sebuah social network yang berpadu antara unsur profesional dan personal. Banyak orang menggunakan Facebook untuk kepentingan bisnis mereka, seperti misal menggunakannya untuk marketing. Namun tidak kalah banyaknya mereka yang menggunakan Facebook untuk kepentingan personal semata. Memahami habitat dari tempat yang ingin anda lakukan personal branding penting supaya anda bisa menyesuaikan diri dengan iklim di dalamnya.
Mungkin masih ada yang bertanya-tanya, manfaatnya apa membangun personal branding?
Manfaat punya personal branding yang kuat di antaranya:
* Terkenal. Sudah pasti anda akan banyak dikenal orang.
* Menjadikan anda pakar. Pakar maksudnya bukan “apa-apa dibikin sukar” 
tapi memang pakar suatu bidang dimana anda nantinya jadi tempat bertanya banyak orang.
* Meningkatkan nilai jual anda. Kalau anda sudah terkenal, kalau anda sudah dianggap pakar, otomatis nilai jual anda naik. Anda akan diundang orang-orang; dan kalau anda punya usaha atau bisnis, itu juga akan mendukung bisnis dan usaha anda.
Ok. Anda sekarang sudah paham pentingnya melakukan personal branding. Sekarang kita ungkap caranya bagaimana melakukan branding di Facebook.
1. Buat profil anda merefleksikan brand anda. Misalkan anda ingin melakukan branding sebagai seorang konsultan profesional, pastikan profil facebook anda merefleksikan citra tersebut. Cantumkan hal-hal yang terkait dengan profesi anda.
2. Pasang foto yang sesuai. Kalau anda ingin membranding diri anda sebagai seorang profesional, pasang foto yang menunjukkan anda sosok profesional.
3. Buat username facebook yang singkat. Contoh seperti http://www.facebook.com/jokosusilo pastinya jauh lebih baik dibandingkan url yang panjangnya seperti http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=123456789 bukan?
Untuk cara membuat username yang singkat bisa anda baca babeh.net.
4. Update status sesuai brand anda. Anda bisa update status yang terkait branding. Misalnya update status soal proyek yang sedang anda kerjakan, atau soal seminar yang sedang anda isi, atau mungkin tentang perkembangan bisnis internet anda.
5. Pilih grup dan friend secara bijak. Teman dan grup yang anda ikuti adalah refleksi dari anda. Kalau grup yang anda ikuti baik, anda pun akan dipandang baik. Kalau dipandang buruk, anda ikut tersangkut buruk.
6. Lakukan tagging dan sharing. Baik dalam update status berupa teks, foto, atau video. Namun jangan sembarangan melakukannya. Pastikan hanya pilih orang yang sesuai atau terkait hal yang anda tag-kan.
7. Klasifikasikan teman-teman anda. Biar tidak campur aduk, anda bisa klasifikasikan teman-teman anda. misalnya sebagai hubungan pertemanan, hubungan keluarga, hubungan profesional, dan lainnya.
Caranya:
* buka tab Teman yang kemudian akan memunculkan semua daftar teman anda.
* klik buat daftar baru dan beri nama sesuai klasifikasi anda.
* image facebook friendtambahkan teman-teman anda ke daftar-daftar kontak yang sesuai.
* jika sudah, seperti sekilas dikatakan Mas Arief di atas, lakukan pengaturan privasi (privacy setting) profil anda. Dan anda bisa sesuaikan isi profil anda terhadap orang/kelompok yang tepat.
Dengan melakukan personal branding secara tepat di facebook, hasilnya akan luar biasa. Brand anda akan tertancap kuat sebagai top of mind di kalangan teman-teman facebook anda. sumber : OM joko S.
