Kau bilang adam berdosa gara-gara hasutanku? Kalau begitu, atas hasutan siapa aku melakukan dosa? Aku sebenarnya melakukan apa yang Dia perintahkan, dan aku sepenuhnya patuh pada keinginan Allah. Mau bagaimana lagi? Tak ada ruang yang luput dari kuasa-Nya. Aku bukanlah tuan bagi keinginanku sendiri.
Aku menyembah Allah selama 700 ribu tahun! Tak ada tempat tersisa di langit dan di bumi di mana aku tak menyembah-Nya. Setiap hari aku berkata pada-Nya,” ya Allah, anak keturunan Adam menolakmu, namun Engkau tetap bermurah hati dan meninggikan mereka. Tapi aku, yang mencintai dan memuja-Mu dengan pemujaan yang benar, Engkau buat menjadi hina dan buruk rupa”.
Lihatlah segala penderitaan dan kesengsaraan yang telah ditimpakan-Nya atas dunia ini. Lihatlah betapa Monster itu melakukannya hanya untuk menghibur diri! Jika ada yang terlihat murni, dibuat-Nya ternoda! Jika ada yang manis, Dia buat masam! Jika ada yang bernilai, dibuat-Nya jadi sampah! Dia tak lebih dari sekedar Badut dan Pesulap Murahan, Pembohong Gila! Dan kegilaan-Nya masih terus membuatku lebih gila lagi.
The Madness of God menjadikan ketergelinciran iblis, dan dakwaannya kepada Tuhan karena telah “menyesatkannya”, sebagai landasan bagi pertanyaan- pertanyaan mengenai kemungkinan kehendak bebas di hadapan kemahakuasaan Tuhan. Pertanyaan yang berulang kali diajukan adalah : jika Tuhan Mahakuasa, dan tiada sesuatu pun yang dapat terjadi diluar kehendak-Nya, maka bagaimana mungkin makhluk dapat disalahkan karena dosa-dosanya?
